About the PCCN
The Progressive Consultants of Color Network (PCCN), is a volunteer-run collective (with free membership!) to connect consultants of color to each other for skills-sharing, community building, networking, and more. Together, this community can support itself to build stronger businesses, make more progressive impact, and learn from each other. In practice, the PCCN is an email list serv and Slack community.
Why is this necessary?
Too many political professionals, consultants, and founders work in silos. There’s a ton of competition in the consulting arena and so much transience in our industry–it can be hard to keep up and stay connected. More importantly, campaign and organizational leadership, while trending in the right direction, doesn’t reflect the coalition of working class & people of color we need to galvanize to truly tackle all the challenges facing our democracy. The bottom line: the consultant class in progressive politics is still overwhelmingly white. Spaces this like this can help change that, one consultant and contract at a time.
Who is this for?
If you are a person of color, live in the US or Canada, own or work at a firm, freelance, or otherwise consult on progressive campaigns, causes, and organizations, we’d love for you to join us. Whether your subject matter expertise is operations, organizing, digital, data, comms, fundraising, or something else, you’re welcome!
FAQs
Who is behind this network? The Progressive Consultants of Color Network is a joint collaboration of Salim Shariff, Jalakoi Solomon, Olivia Chow, Leo Tafoya, Kunal Basu-Dutta, Obet Montalvo, and maybe you!Is there a cost to join?
No! While we may entertain paid membership options down the line, general membership to PCCN will be free forever, with certain benefits potentially accessible only after paying dues. Why should I join?
Great question. We're all in too many Slacks and email list-servs. Some of them more useful than others. But as relatively new consultants, many of us have felt isolated from the broader progressive community in which we operate. We also know that despite some progress, the vast majority of money, contracts, and power in our space continues to be held by white men. This space is our answer and antidote, for now.The network has the following benefits:🔒 An invite-only Slack Channel
✉️ Invite-only email list serve to announce member-wide events
🤝🏽 Semi-regular virtual meetups, which will at first be relatively informal, but as membership grows, will dive into the various elements of consulting (accounting, legal, finding clients, scoping & pricing, etc)
📄 Resource sharing; such as sample contracts, invoice templates, etc
❓If interest and engagement is high, an RFP board, exclusive dues-paying programming, more association services, etc will be consideredOk I'm sold. How do I join?Yay! 🎉 Just click the button below to fill out your info and we'll be in touch. Is the network global or geographically based? The PCCN is open to any progressive consultants of color in the US and Canada. We love our global siblings in the progressive movement, but also know our contexts are fairly different, too.How do you determine if someone is a person of color
This one can be tricky! We'll be operating on the honor system, and respecting any person who self identifies as a person of color. We'll ask some personal questions in the membership form, and if any trolls/white people join our spaces, they'll be booted as soon as they're noticed. To ensure this remains a community that only benefits the progressive ecosystem, a group of founding members will vet every signup before people are added to Slack & the listserv.
